Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins

I stumbled upon this book during a flight delay, and the bright green cover immediately
caught my eye. Even more intriguing? There was only one copy left on the stand. I
always take that as a good sign—like finding a crowded restaurant in a new town. If
people are flocking to it, maybe it’s worth the hype!
Let Them Theory offers a simple approach to something so many of us struggle
with—carrying the emotional weight of other people’s issues. I’m someone who
constantly tries to “help” everyone: friends, family, co-workers. But that habit often
leaves me exhausted and overwhelmed. This book's core message? Let them. Let
people think, feel, act, and react however they want. You can’t control it—and it’s not
your job to.
The second part of the concept is just as important: Let Me. Let me focus on myself. My
life. My reactions. My peace. That shift in focus—away from others and back to
yourself—is powerful.
Is the book a little repetitive? Maybe. I think it could be tighter with fewer personal
anecdotes, but to be fair, those stories also give it charm and relatability. And honestly,
reading it made me realize just how much unnecessary stress I carry—and how little of
it is actually mine to hold.
Case in point: I recently had to attend a dreaded work event. Normally, I would’ve been
a ball of stress, trying to read every expression and interpret every passive-aggressive
comment. But after reading Let Them, I reminded myself that it’s not about them—it’s
about how I choose to show up. And you know what? I genuinely enjoyed myself more
than I ever had at one of those things.
This is a great book for travel—easy to pick up, put down, and revisit without losing the
thread. Bonus: After finishing the physical copy, I grabbed one of Mel Robbins'
audiobooks. Highly recommend the audio version—she’s a fantastic narrator.
Overall, this is a helpful and relatable read that really encourages you to stay focused
on yourself and approach tricky situations with a calmer mindset. It’s practical without
being preachy, and I found myself nodding along in agreement more than once.
I’d definitely recommend it—especially as a thoughtful gift! I can totally picture it nestled
in a cozy gift basket, tucked between a couple of mugs and a bag of fresh coffee beans.
Perfect for a little self-care moment.
